$79.99, $89.99, $98.89,$107…. Notice something? Yes sometimes a small loan is needed for a business to recycle their CFL lamps with some recyclers which is unfortunate. These recycling companies will also take gold bullion and barabonds as well. These prices are right off the internet and lead unsuspecting office managers, EHS offices and business management to believe that these are true costs needed to comply with universal waste lamp recycling laws for CFLs. Are some of these prices inflated? YES. Are some of these prices excessive? YES. Should a company pay more for less? Absolutely if they want to follow the trail of how big government operates and spends our tax dollars.
Lets break it down with an example….
Recycling Company A: Broker. A broker does not directly recycle your lamps. They do not have any recycling equipment to do so. They do not have the proper permits as well for direct recycling. Think of them as the minivan carpool that picks your child up in the morning to take them to school. Its transportation, not recycling. They need to rely on a 3rd party recycler to actually do that. So what could go wrong? The company could go out of business while transporting your lamps and you would still be liable for them. The company could just we warehousing these lamps with no intention of recycling. Which would you feel better with, a certificate of recycling from a company that is not a recycler or a certificate from a company that actually has all the permits and equipment to directly recycle?
The high price is a direct correlation to their business model. Since they do not recycle they need to pay a 3rd party. They still also need to pay for the transportation, labor, shipping charges as well as that beautifully designed and colored container that your receive. All signs point to an inflated price. A office manager will take the price of the container and divide it by how many CFLs can fit in it and think that is the real cost to them but it’s not. Cut out all the filler costs and the true cost is much lower.
So a company can go on paying a huge price increase for a nice looking container and a few other bells and whistles from a company that actually does not recycle their lamp waste, or they can work with a company that offers direct recycling at the lowest price in the entire united States at a cost that is up to 50% less than other programs. See why the NLR ComPak CFL recycling services are more bang for the buck with less fillers than Taco Bell meat filling.
